If you need a laugh, Wikipedia identifies #Abbas as the president of the
" State of #Palestine. "
More upside - down world.
There has never been and there is not now a
" State of Palestine." Oh well.
He is worth at least $100 million.

@manoloforastero We agree completely, but what Twitter is doing is recreating every problem that Wikipedia has had forever.

@Sawantsayalee @DDonagan @Beaudog13 @va_shiva @FugEmAllButSix @Wikipedia So by what Shiva says, the judge did not dismiss the case. This means it has to go to the next stage. He was previously admonished by the judge for failure to make a good faith effort to resolve the issue. So it still has to make its way through the courts. Neither side had won

This, (not so)incidentally, is exactly the problem wikipedia has experienced. The right is able to game systems that rely on respectability to exclude minorities and entrench white power in the framing of their articles.

@jamieluvsaj @AcostaKathryn @mrs_socialista @jimmy_dore Are you okay? Like seriously. You're taking a hundred years of nuanced and complicated history and distilling it down to one translated word in Wikipedia to make a point that you don't need to use Hitler for thats still also incorrect while being right.....

Seana Davis @Seana_Davis

By comparing Twitter to Wikipedia or Reddit, you’re missing the infrastructure element here too. Reddit is a forum and Wikipedia is essentially a network of trolling. Neither platform has had to deal with the issue of viral misinformation as much as Twitter.

With wikipedia trending I'd like to reminisce on how long it took and how much of a war it was to get them to accept that @Jorgensen4POTUS was an actual presidential candidate in 2020. And how they took down everything actual libertarians wrote about libertarians....

@faye_derek I was on YouTube and one of those reaction people did Stay by Shakespeare’s Sister. In the comments someone said Mercella Detroit co-wrote Clapton’s Lay Down Sally. So I go to Wikipedia to find that she is now 68. Not only that but she is Jay Aston’s sister in law!

I also have an issue with comparing this move to Wikipedia.
Wikipedia is a non-profit. Twitter is not. Crowdsourcing fact-checks won’t fix inherent issues.

@Rudefire @micsolana I don't pretend to have the answer, though. This is the most difficult problem social has faced.
I am curious about Wikipedia's process for vetting & flagging citations -- need to research this more. Or maybe they have a similar problem and it's been overlooked by the public?

@micsolana @SP1NS1R Hard to sum up full thoughts here without it looking bad, and reputation was a bad choice of word, but I don't know what else to call it. An overlay with wikipedia style sources so people could make up their own minds, on people and concepts. I dunno, Twitter is broken though.

@teddyBLX @RealRyanAshe @TwitterSupport @birdwatch If they appointed Sean Hannity to pick the gatekeepers, you'd see the problem. The leftist editors who already infest Twitter, Facebook, Wikipedia etc. constantly censor facts, including some they admitted were true after the election. That's the point, in fact.

Alexander Brunk @AlexanderBrunk

@politicalmath Crowdsourcing seems to have worked with Wikipedia, so perhaps this will be more effective than a top-down system of folks at the social media companies selecting which posts should get tagged as untrue?

@dannypgh @mcmillen @sortiecat I think I have something on this somewhere, looking for it. But directly from that Wikipedia article, 2006: 1.4M unauthorized persons in Texas, $1.58B in taxes from them, est. $1.16B in state services used; $0.42B left over or $300/person.
